Dionysos Scene

This scene is painted on the inside of a drinking cup by Exekias (ca. 540 B.C.), and shows Dionysos, holding a drinking cup in one hand, reclining in a boat whose mast and sails have become entwined with a grape vine. Dolphins swim around the boat. This scene is very like that described in the Homeric Hymn to Dionysos, 35-53.
