Kronos and Rhea

On this red figure pelike (460 B.C.) in the New York Metropolitan Musuem, Kronos stands at the left as Rhea presents him with a rock in swaddling clothes. Thinking this is the newly born Zeus, Kronos will swallow the rock and ultimately be defeated by his son.

This painting by Goya shows Kronos devouring one of his children.
