Zeus and Hera with Hephaistos

This relief, c. 150 B.C. or later, shows Zeus and Hera throwing Hephaistos off Mt. Olympos. At the left of the scene, Athena, fully armed, stands by a tree on a rock which perhaps represents the island of Lemnos where Hephaistos is said to have landed. Zeus and Hera watch from the clouds above (see detail below) as Hephaistos falls. To the right is a sea goddess reclining on the back of a large sea creature.

Here is a detail from the same relief: Zeus holds the customary thunderbolt in his left hand while Hera, on his left, holds a sceptre and Hephaistos, holding hammer and tongs falls below them
