B.A. Requirements

*These requirements are based on Catalogs up to and including 2020-2021.*

The Classical Studies major requires a minimum of 30 hours above the 100 level distributed as follows in one of three possible concentrations. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA for courses in the major, and nine (9) semester hours at the 300 level or above, with three (3) semester hours in an advanced seminar (400 level)*.

Concentrations:

Classical Language and Literature [U357]

  1. 6 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 201, 202
  2. 12 s.h. in one language
    • Latin – must include at least 3 courses at the 300 level or above
    • Greek – must include at least 1 course at the 300 level or above
  3. 3 s.h. in material culture to be chosen from: CCI 211, 212, 312, 313, 314, 360, 365, 412, 475
  4. 6 s.h. in literature in translation to be chosen from: CCI 205, 227, 228, 305, 306, 321, 324, 325, 326, 402, 405, 407
  5. 3 s.h. in a related field to be chosen from: CCI 206, 207, 240, 323, 327, 330, 336, 340, 350, 370, 401, 450, 455, 490 or one of the above categories

Classical Civilization [U354]

  1. 12 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 101, 102, 211, and 212
  2. 6 s.h in CCI, GRK, or LAT at 200 level or above (not including the Core classes)
  3. 12 s.h. in CCI, GRK, or LAT at 300 level or above (No more than 6 credits in CCI 401 and/or CCI 450 and/or CCI 455 may be counted.)
  4. 3 s.h.  in one of the following classes CCI 402, 405, 412, 475, 490. 

Classical Archaeology [U352]

  1. 6 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 211, 212
  2. 3 s.h. in either Greek or Latin at the 204 level or above
  3. 9 s.h. hours in material culture to be chosen from CCI 312, 313, 314, 360, 365, 412, 475
  4. 3 s.h. hours in literature to be chosen from: CCI 205, 227, 228, 305, 306, 321, 324, 325, 326, 402, 405, 407
  5. 9 s.h. in a related field to be chosen from: CCI 206, 207, 240, 323, 327, 330, 336, 340, 350,  370, 401, 450, 455, 490 or one of the above categories
