Research Interests

Dr. Dad’s research encompasses Classical Antiquity and South Asia. She specializes in myth and performance and is interested in how mythology performs itself across media, whether in oral narration, on stage, or in material culture. Her first book, ‘Through the Looking Glass’: The Narrative Performance of Anarkali studies the performance of mythology through the highly orientalized South Asian figure of Anarkali. Dr. Dad also specializes in Classical Reception, especially in children’s literature, animation, and videogames. She is the Director of the Classics Gaming Collaborative as well as a Research Affiliate at the Carolina Asia Center. She enjoys teaching about monsters, heroes, tombs, and travel–preferably all in one juicy legend or stunning myth.
