On this black figure vase, the blacksmith god, Hephaistos appears crouching before his forge, holding tongs in his right hand.
This red figure pelike, cc 425 B.C., shows a drunken Hephaistos leaning on a satyr as he follows Dionysos back to Olympos (ask in class about this story!). Hephaistos again holds tongs (in his right hand) as well as a hammer in his left hand.
Hephaistos’ lame foot is particularly visible on this black figure Hydria from Caere, ca. 550-500 B.C. Notice Dionysos at the left with his drinking cup and other attributes.
