Margaret Meriwether

Margaret Woods Meriwether was born in Columbia, SC on February 16, 1926. She attended Wellesley College for three years and, after a serious illness, completed her B.A. at the University of South Carolina in 1947. After teaching high school Latin for four years, she began her graduate studies at Yale University where she earned an M.A. in 1957. After a year at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens on a Fulbright Scholarship, she joined the faculty at UNCG, where she taught for ten years before returning to Columbia, SC in 1968 to teach Latin at the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School until her retirement in 1990. She died in Columbia on April 15, 2013 at the age of 87.
