B.A. Requirements beginning in 2021-2022

*These are the requirements for students entering in 2021-2022 and after.*

The Classical Studies major requires a minimum of 33 hours distributed as follows in one of three possible concentrations. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA for courses in the major, and a minimum of nine (9) semester hours at the 300 level or above.

Concentrations:

Classical Language and Literature [U357]

  1. 9 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 201, 202, and either CCI 211 or CCI 212
  2. 12 s.h. in one language at the 200-level or above
    • Latin – must include at least 2 courses at the 300 level or above
    • Greek – must include at least 1 course at the 300 level or above
  3. 6 s.h. in literature and culture to be chosen from: CCI 204, 205, 207, 215, 216, 225, 227, 228, 240, 305, 306, 323, 327, 328, 329, 330, 336, 340, 350, 401, 402, 407, 450, 455
  4. 3 s.h. in any CCI, GRK or LAT course at the 300 level or above
  5. 3 s.h. in an advanced seminar to be chosen from: CCI 402, 405, 412, 467, 475, 490

Classical Civilization [U354]

  1. 9 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 201, 202, and either CCI 211 or CCI 212
  2. 3 hours in either Greek or Latin at the 204 level or above
  3. 3 s.h. in material culture to be chosen from: CCI 215, 216, 312, 313, 314
  4. 9 s.h. in literature and culture to be chosen from: CCI 204, 205, 207, 225, 227, 228, 240, 305, 306, 323, 327, 328, 329, 330, 336, 340, 350, 401, 450, 455
  5. 6 s.h. in any CCI, GRK or LAT course at the 300 level or above
  6. 3 s.h. in an advanced seminar to be chosen from: CCI 402, 405, 412, 467, 475, 490

Classical Archaeology [U352]

  1. 6 s.h. in Core courses: CCI 211, 212, and either CCI 201 or CCI 202
  2. 3 s.h. in either Greek or Latin at the 204 level or above
  3. 9 s.h. hours in material culture to be chosen from CCI 215, 216, 312, 313, 314
  4. 3 s.h. hours in literature and culture to be chosen from: CCI 204, 205, 207, 225, 227, 228, 240, 305, 306, 323, 327, 328, 329, 330, 336, 340, 350, 401, 450, 455
  5. 6 s.h. in any CCI, GRK or LAT course at the 300 level or above

*No more than 6 credits in CCI 401 and/or CCI 450 and/or CCI 455 may be counted toward the major in Classical Studies.
